In reaction to the horrific assault on civilians on June 9 in Sobame Da village, Mopti region, the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) at the International Criminal Court (ICC) strongly condemns and expresses extreme concern about the recent series of violent attacks occurring in central Mali. It has been reported that a considerable number of people have been killed and disappeared including children, women, and elderly. The TFV extends its deepest condolences to and solidarity with all the families of victims, the survivors, the affected communities in the region, and the Government of Mali.

These criminal activities require an appropriate response to the harms suffered by the victims. The TFV encourages all actors to engage in intercommunal dialogue to resolve tensions and to help ensure that peace and reconciliation within Malian society are based on justice, truth and memory.

 Mindful of the primary responsibility of the Government of Mali to respond to the suffering of victims, the TFV encourages the Government to sustain its efforts in this regard and bring the perpetrators to justice, as well as to prevent further violence against citizens.

 The TFV is determined to fulfill its mission under the Rome Statute to help victims overcome the harm they suffered from heinous crimes, which is a matter of great concern to the international community as a whole.

 The TFV confirms its willingness and commitment to operate in Mali under its two mandates, reparations and assistance to victims, whilst working closely with the Government, the international community and civil society in Mali.
